2010 Upper Minor Division Tournament Rules
Updated as of June 18th, 2010
If time permits, teams can use the game field for pre-game in-field practice. Make sure that each team gets equal time for in-field.
DO NOT USE THE IN-FIELD FOR BATTING PRACTICE. Use the outfield for pre-game batting.
It is the home team's responsibility to get the final results to Rob Morse at robmorse@btinet.net.
Scores and tournament bracket updates will be posted on our website as soon as results are submitted.
- Dugouts will be assigned on first arrival basis.
- Coin Flip will determine home team.
- Regular season umpire rules apply. Inability for a team to supply an umpire will result in a forfiet.
- If eight or more players are present at the game, the game is official and no penalty outs will be called. If a team only has seven or fewer players the game is forfeited.
- Each player must play a minimum of twelve (12) defensive outs per 6 inning game.
- A player is allowed to pitch a maximum of SIX (6) innings in any two consecutive games. It makes no difference how many days off the pitcher has had between the two consecutive games. A single pitch counts as an inning. For the safety of our kids, the maximum number innings that can be pitched by a player in one game is four (4).
For example:
If Johnny pitches four (4) innings in game 1, he is eligible to pitch two (2) innings in game 2.
If Johnny pitches three (3) innings in game two, he is eligible to pitch three (3) innings in game 3.
If Johnny pitches two (2) inning in game 2, he is eligible to pitch four (4) innings in game 3.
If Johnny doesn't pitch at all in game 2, he is eligible to pitch four (4) innings in game 3.
- The home team will keep the "official" book and will keep track of innings pitched per pitcher for both teams. Coaches, make sure you check with the home team book to make sure they have your pitcher's number and number of innings pitched correct. Email the final results to Rob Morse at robmorse@btinet.net as soon as possible after the game is over.
- You CAN NOT re-enter a pitcher. For example, you can not have a player pitch in the first inning and then have them pitch again in the last inning. Once a player is removed from the pitching position they will not be allowed to pitch again during that specific game. Any violation of the re-enter rule will result in forfeiture of the game.
- Five (5) Warm-up pitches for new pitchers...2 warm-ups for existing pitchers between innings.
- A team can score a maximum of 6 runs during their half of an inning.
- The rules for base stealing during the tournament are the same as they were for the regular season.
- Tagging up on fly balls is allowed.
- Legal Bats Size will be observed. The maximum barrel size for the Cal Ripken league is 2 ¼”. Our league does not allow 2 5/8” barrels on bats. Any bats that do not qualify will be removed and one out will be assessed to the team violating the rule.
- Time Limit is 90 Minutes. If the game is tied at the end of the time limit the winner will be declared by a coin flip. Please, have your players hurry in and out between innings so games finish on time. Also, start on time!
- Coaches are required to know and follow these rules. Any violation of these rules may result in forfeiture of the game.
- Tournament Tie Breaker:
There will be no regular extra innings played.
The visiting team will put out the last three players who batted in the previous inning or tie breaker on first, second and third base with the last player going to first and so on. The visiting team then gets ONE OUT to score as many as many runs as they can. Once they have made an out, then the home team gets the same chance. The teams will need to hustle in and out between each tie breaker session and the pitchers will only get two warm up pitches.
This process will be repeated up to three (3) times to try and break the tie. If after three attempts to break the tie, the dreaded coin flip will determine the winner of the game, with the home team calling the flip.
Three sessions of the tie breaker process will count as one (1) inning pitched. All pitcher rules for innings pitched will continue to be in effect during the tie breaker process and each session of the tie breaker process will count as one third of an inning pitched. All regular season rules apply and therefore you cannot re-enter a pitcher who had already pitched during the game, unless they were the pitcher of record after regular play (6 innings) and still had innings left to pitch. For example, if you had a player pitch the last inning (6th) and that was his/her first inning pitched during that game, he/she could pitch three “tie breaker sessions” which is equal to one inning pitched
